The show at Lazy Dog in Marlboro will be a special set.  We’ve re-arranged the songs to feature the Guitorgan, Bells, FootSynth, Melodica and more.  The set’s going to be recorded and podcasted at a later date but if you’re in MA you should definitely come see us.  In all likelihood we probably won’t repeat this experiment again.

Unraveled creates a physical representation for art that is increasingly experienced digitally. The Unraveled Collection is a series of songs by young independent artists, represented physically as T-shirt designs that incorporate meaningful quotes from each piece. Owning an Unraveled design, you own both the original artwork and the T-shirt based on it. You also get access to an interview where the artist describes the creative process behind that artwork.

Unraveled was started in an effort to amplify the voice of young independent artists. All artists featured on Unraveled create work that speaks for their generation, addressing cultural and political issues.

The concept of Unraveled is a response to the decline of records, DVDs, and books, and offers an alternate tangible object to complement our digital consumption of these arts. It is also inspired by the social nature of apparel, by its potential to spread art and ideas and create a connection between people who have shared references.

Take the time to find a phrase that speaks to you, discover its source, and read about its creator’s motivation. Then wear it with pride and, when people ask you what your shirt means, share the art and spread its story.

“Mondegreen”
The old adage that less is often so
much more could easily apply to
Plumerai’s stripped back art rock
sound, every beat, every note, you
feel has been carefully thought about
before inclusion. There’s an almost
irrepressible feel that you’ve been
transported back to an alternate
version of music history, blended to
perfection then brought bang up to
date, with the production as sharp as
a butchers knife. In many other hands
this would simply turn out as regular
pop, not here though, there’s way to
much avant garde, plus mercifully,
the absence of an electro beat. ‘13’
for instance opens all spikey before
moving into brooding and moody
territory, ‘Troubled Soul’ is the
softest most velvety of rock with just
a hint of jazz to the rhythm. All this
is merely a backdrop to the voice of
Eliza Brown though, who sounds like
part Dido and for some reason that I
could not get out of my head, Jessica
Rabbit. Not that there’s anything
cartoonish about Eliza’s vocal style,
it’s very real indeed, very seductive,
so addictively listenable. If you’re
looking to bang your head then this
is not the album for you, if however
you want to sit down with the TV off,
the curtains drawn and a glass of
your favourite poison to hand for a
good chill out, ‘Mondegreen’ would
be the soundtrack I’d choose.

Goddakk – Not Enough (Silber)
Brief and to the point. This is a track from a new E.P. by Goddakk which is another new release on Silber Recordings. It’s part of their 5 in 5 series which involves the artist creating a five track E.P. which lasts no longer than five minutes. Goddakk manage this task with considerable aplomb as you would expect from someone as talented as Martin Newman best known for his work with Boston band Plumerai. You can download the “III” E.P. from the Silber Records website for just $1.
